Transcarpathia Berehovo and its districtLOCATION: Berehovo district is situated in the south-eastern part of the region, it is bounded by Hungary in the south (there are Kosyno, Luzhanka, Dzvinkove border crossing points), Uzhhorod, Mukacheve, Irshava and Vynohradiv districts of Transcarpathian region. It covers an area of 650 km˛ with the population of 83,7 thousand inhabitants. The population is composed of the representatives of hungarians, ukrainians, ryssians, gypsies, jews etc.
Khust and its districtLOCATION: the district is situated in the south of Transcarpathia, it is bounded by Romania, Vynohradiv, Irshava, Mizhhiria and Tiachiv districts. It covers an area of 1000 km˛, with thepopulation of 127,3 thousand people (among them are the ukrainians, romanians, germans, hungarians, russians, gypsies etc.).
Irshava and its districtLOCATION: “Charmed corner” – this name usually apply to the Irshava district – is situated in the very centre of Transcarpathia on the border between the lowland and mountainous zones. The territory of the district can be called the “small reflection of the Transcarpathian region”. Its territory has 943 km˛. The population counts 99 thousand inhabitants. The representatives of many nationalities are living here, the majority of which make the ukrainians, germans, hungarians, gypsies etc.
Mukachevo and its districtLOCATION: Mukachevo district is situated in the western part of the region. It covers an area of 1.100 square km. with the population of 183.200 people. There are 89 settlements in the district. Mukachevo town is the centre.
Velikiy Berezniy and its districtLOCATION: even though situated in the “corner” of Transcarpathia, the Velikiy Berezniy district is the real treasury for the tourists and those starving for the active recreation. The district covers an area of 800 km˛ with the population of 30 thousand people.The representatives of many national minorities live on the district’s territory, the most of which are Ukrainians, Gypsies, Slovaks, etc. The district is bounded by Slovak Republic (40 km of border) and Poland (33 km of border) in the north and west, borders with the Lviv region, Perechyn and Volovets districts of Transcarpathia. A “Maliy Berezniy -Ublya” international car border-crossing point is situated on the district’s territory.
Vynohradiv and its district
LOCATION: at the foothills of the Black mountain, on the right bank of the picturesque river Tisza, in 17 km from the Ukrainian-Hungarian state border stands the attractive and cozy town called Vynohradiv.
Perechyn and its districtLОCATION: the Perechyn distric – “Transcarpathian perl” is situated in the valleys of Uzh and Turya rivers. It is bounded by Koshice region of Slovakia, and by the five districts of Transcarpathia – Velikiy Bereznyi and Volovets districts in the north, Uzhhorod district in the south, Svaliava and Mukachevo districts in the east. It covers an area of 626 km˛ with the population of near 32 thousand people. The population is mainly represented by the ethnic ukrainians – lemkoes, but the representatives of more than 10 nationalities also live here. Perechyn town is the district’s centre.
Rakhiv and its districtLOCATION: Rakhiv district is the largest and the highest mountain area of Transcarpathia. It is situated in the eastern part of the region. The district borders on Romania in the south, on Ivano-Frankivsk region in the east and on Tiachiv district in the north-west. It covers an area of 1.900 square km. with the population of 90.500 people, mainly ethnic Ukrainians – Hutsuls, but in general representatives of 12 ethnic nationalities. The district centre is the town of Rakhiv.
Svalyava and its districtLOCATION: Svalyava district is situated in the central part of Zakarpatska oblast (Transcarpathian region), in the foothills of the Carpathians. It covers an area of 680 square km. with population of 55.000 inhabitants. There are 29 settlements on its territory. Svalyava town is the district centre.
Tyachiv and its districtLОCATION: Tyachiv district is situated in the eastern part of Transcarpathia, being bounded by Romania in the south, Ivano-Frankivsk region in the north, Mizhgiria, Khust and Rakhiv districts in the east and west. It occupies the territory of 1800 km˛ with the population of near 172 thousand people. There are Ukrainians, Romanians, Germans, Hungarians, Russians, Gypsies and other nationalities living in the district.
